Tenuta di Biserno, Biserno 2016

Biserno is our eponymous wine. A thought-provoking wine, Biserno reflects the excellent terroir and micro-climate of the coastal area of the Upper Maremma. Only the finest grapes are selected for the blend, resulting in a wine of depth, intensity, complexity, longevity, and elegance.

The 2016 Biserno is a softly textured wine with enormous richness, plushness, and softness. The bouquet opens to profound depth with thick layers of dark fruit, sweet spice, chocolate, tar, and camphor ash. Biserno is a large-frame, full-bodied blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot. This vintage delivers enormous precision, grace, and sharpness; however, the lasting impression it leaves is one of power, opulence, and irresistible concentration. This wine speaks generously to all the senses and your heart.

Lodovico Antinori estate Biserno is a boutique winery with vineyards at the northern edge of Bolgheri village, bordering Bibbona. Biserno’s main character is its dense and creamy palate with full body and great depth. 2016 is slightly leafy on the nose, with a dried eucalyptus leaf aroma followed by precise cassis fruit on the palate. It will evolve well thanks to its concentration and balance, developing its typical depth of tarry and earthy notes that are typical of this Mediterranean climate.

Marchese Lodovico Antinori discovered the property of Tenuta di Biserno near Bibbona, in the Alta Maremma area of Tuscany, in 1994, while looking for additional land to expand his Tenuta dell’ Ornellaia vineyard. Given its proximity to Bolgheri, it does not surprise the similarity in terroir at first struck him. What he found in Bibbona, however, had so much potential, he was inspired to develop an entirely different plan. With more hills and stones than nearby Bolgheri, this land appeared to be ideally suited to produce a new and different wine. In 2001 Lodovico and his brother, Piero, established Tenuta di Biserno as an elite wine estate.
